A nice, peaceful cruise by
Jess C from Northwest WI Sailing date: Jun 2010Pros: Friendly crew, Comfortable rooms Cons: The on board activities were a little limited This was our second time on an Alaskan cruise. We sailed with another cruise line previously, but got a great price on the Carnival Spirit, so we chose to take the deal this time! It was a good experience overall. The crew was fun and friendly, the room was more spacious than on the previous trip, and we enjoyed all the trivia contests/games on board. On the downside, the variety of on board activites was limited. There was always a place to listen to music and usually some trivia stuff, but there were lots of times that we would've liked more options since we don't gamble or want to go to art auctions. Thankfully, there were many more positives than negatives. We loved the trip. It's great for families! Our wait staff in the dining room was FANTASTIC and the activites people were very fun. The shore excursions made the trip even better! We had excellent experiences on them all! Ship Quality

Collapse List of Ports
Juneau, AlaskaWe went rafting the first visit, then kayaking in a bay the second visit and got a different perspectives. It was neat to see and hear about the Mendenhall glacier. The city itself is small and we didn't get as much of the history on our excursions, so I can't say much else about it.
Ketchikan, AlaskaWe only visited this port on our second trip, so we did a back country Jeep and canoe adventure. It was a fun activity, but they also walked us through a temperate rainforest where we learned more about the land. It was a wonderful excursion, but it limited our time in town. It looked like a sweet little town that I would've liked to have spent more time in.
Skagway, AlaskaThe first time we came, we went on the White Pass Railway, which was excellent for scenery and history of the area. This time we went to the Klondike Adventure Park (ziplining) and it was a blast!
Don't Miss: White Pass Railway for first timers, Klondike adventure park for active, adventure-seekers Victoria, British ColumbiaWe went on a highlights tour and visited the Craigdarroch castle. Our guide was TREMEDOUS and we got TONS of info about the town, past and present. She made the tour. It is a lovely town, but pretty impossible to see in the limited time we had there without doing some kind of excursion, so I'm SO glad we chose to do one. It is the one port where the town isn't right off the pier.

  A very nice Cruise by
Ramesh G from Dallas, Tx Sailing date: Apr 2010Pros: Food Cons: Too Much Smoke in Casino This is our second cruise on this ship (spirit). We knew everything about the ship. The ship is getting little old but still very nice.It has everything we could ask for. The only negetive is Too much smoke in the casino. We wish it had a no smoking area in the casino.Anytime we went there, someone was smoking next to us.Dining rooms are nice, good entertainment, good service, good c abins. Carnival staff is very well trained about all the situations.Great service in every department. From day one to the last day, we knew what is going on and what is coming next. Shore excursons were also very nice. This was our fourth cruise with Carnival and I must say they are getting better every time in food quality and the overall service quality. Ship Quality

  Great Carnival Spirit Cruise by
A Traveler from San Diego, CA Sailing date: Apr 2010Pros: The stateroom was awesome, and the staff was simply wonderful: very fun and professional people; delighful service. The food in the buffet on the Lido deck was excellent and the dining room had some superior moments. Cons: No cons, not really. However, the casino slots were so tight, you couldn't play more than five minutes--they could loosen those up a bit if they expect people to seriously play at all. Also, the casino staff might be a bit more attentive. The Carnival Spirit is a beautiful ship: the insane "nouveau art deco" decor achieves a level of artistic beauty and inspiration despite the mixture of several styles at once and a glitz level worthy of Vegas--nonetheless, it's visually stunning and exciting. The "funnel" that reaches from Level 2 up to the Steakhouse is gorgeous, with a mural of "cosmic surfers" and lovely, breathtaking glass elevators. The "Pharoah's Lounge" theater is a true joy of Egyptian revival glitter. The Carnival Spirit dancers and the shows are excellent and fun to watch--they deserve accolades for being highly professional at the cruise ship level with the limited resources available, the smaller staging area, etc. They are quite good. The staff overall is wonderful. The stateroom was well serviced, the bed comfortable, the towel animals our steward created nothing short of amazing. The food is good. The pool and covered seating area on the Lido deck is comfortable and fun. The music in the lounges was fine, a nice choice of musicians. There was a diverse mix of people on the cruise, from young to old, of various cultures, which I like. Really a great ship. Ship Quality

  Carnival Spirit Mexican Riviera by
Gyttie Z from Santa Clara, CA Sailing date: Mar 2010Pros: Activities Cons: Food, Location of room I love Carnival Cruises and go every year. This one was great however I did have a few problems. Acapulco is not a safe place for anyone. Ixtapa is a great cruise port. Absolutely beautiful. Now the food was less than par for a cruise but they do have a wide variety. Also we paid for an extended balcony room and we were placed above a teen dance club. The music vibrated so bad it knocked items off of the dresser. The cruise director did compensate us for it though. Overall Carnival is a great cruise line and we will definetely be back. Ship Quality

  Great Cruise by
A Traveler from Lake Tahoe, CA Sailing date: Feb 2010Pros: Food, Cabin Service, Room Service, Warm weather and relaxation Cons: Getting there and going home This cruise was really good. The food and the service was excellent. Shows were only so so, but my wife and I don't cruise for the shows, so others may think they were great. I really like the extra day. Ship QualityWould give a five, but I know that there are ships out there with more amenities, but this ship was in excellent shape, and everything flowed nicely, seats and chairs were comfortable, great ship Dining/FoodFood was excellent. No complaints. Stateroom QualityReally liked the stateroom. Our stewards were excellent, and always kept the room spotless. Ship Staff Quality

My 3rd cruise not the charmer, but good by
Pinbyte from Tucson, AZ Sailing date: Jan 2010Pros: Itinerary, indoor whirlpool, dining room service and housekeeping Cons: the food in the dining room was the worst I've had on a cruise This ship was interesting as were the first two I cruised on. Each had a different layout, but this one had me a bit turned around as the atrium was closer to aft than forward, opposite of my first two cruises. That provided a bit of interest. Otherwise, this was the least interesting ship for the oddest of reasons: It is too efficient and well laid out. Only one main dining room, only one area for alternative dining (except the one supper club), only one shopping area, too few nooks and crannies to explore. Maybe I am just getting to be a more experienced cruiser, but I think the Spirit could do with more mystery and charm. Ship QualityA bit too well laid out to be a place to explore. Dining/FoodAte mostly in main dining for dinner. Shoe leather was trotted out as Chateaubriand. As for alternatives, sushi was hard to catch and was fishy with hardly a bit of fish in it. I cannot believe that this ships food was so terrible when the Carnival Elation I sailed 16 months earlier was actually quite good. The only saving grace was the 24 hr pizza, which just filled the hole, hardly good. Stateroom QualityQuite functional with very comfortable bed and pillows. TV was a joke with no DVD player. Balcony door could not be latched open like on the NCL Sun, a bit of a disappointment. Shower pressure and temperature regulation only fair. Ship Staff QualityOur dining room server was exceptional and offered when to avoid the fish. Housekeeping always greeted us. Overall, very friendly service except in the Lido dining areas. Entertainment & ActivitiesAfter seeing the first show with the dancers, I knew this wasn't for me. One of the comedians was okay. Among the scheduled activities, one looked interesting enough to draw my attendance. I lost interest in about 10 minutes. 0 out of 0 people found this review helpful.

  Great trip by
Monika B from Ontario Canada Sailing date: Jan 2010Pros: friendly staff Cons: same old menu This was our 8th cruise, it's the only way to vacation. As always the staff was very friendly and accomodating. It's a really nice feeling when everyone of the staff that you meet seem to remember your name. The carnival spirit was a nice size ship. Ship QualityThe ship was just the right size. Not to big that you get lost, and large enough that it had everything you could want on a ship. Dining/FoodThe food was great. The main problem was that we didn't get the dining time we wanted and the menu was the same as our last 2 cruises. Stateroom QualityOur stateroom was excellent, we had a balcony room. It had lots of room didn't feel crowded at all Ship Staff QualityThe staff was excellent always ready to help in any way they could. Entertainment & Activitiesthe few shows we did see were good 0 out of 1 people found this review helpful.

  Great Carnival Spirit Cruise by
Vanda B from Sydney Australia Sailing date: Dec 2009Pros: The food & entertainment were great, the waiters were wonderful & the stateroom staff were terrific Cons: The organization for disembarkation on the first port of call was appalling! surley they have done this just a few times before! The staff in the shop was not very nice either, not good customer service from on particular male assisstant, no conversation ,eye contact nothing. Dinning at the late sit Entertainment crew were pretty 2nd rate, shows were good though. Being an Aussie, the Aussie cruise director needs to get another word other than 'cracking' very lame! Food was good. Lining up to get into the dinning room at night wasn't very good either. Overall we enjoyed the cruise but the some of the staff & procedures were very amateurish. Ship QualityEverything was easily accessible Dining/Foodneed to follow other cruise line & have freestyle dining, food was good though Stateroom Qualitybalcony room was great Ship Staff Qualitymost staff were great, some shop staff had no customer service at all Entertainment & Activitiesshows were good, entertainment staff were average 0 out of 0 people found this review helpful.

  Fabulous time by
The Peterson Family from Modesto, Ca Sailing date: Dec 2009Pros: Everything Cons: nothing This was an incredible cruise and our first. We've been a lot of places and this was top rate. The finest details were addressed in the stateroom, dinning, and all over the ship. It was very, very clean and a wonder how efficient the crew is; A well oiled machine. I recommend this to any that want to know and Priceline was great and a very good deal. I recommend them also. We used the voucher for the hotel and stayed two nights at the Grand Hyatt in San Diego for $29 bucks!! Two blocks from the ship port. What a deal. I will do this again for sure. Ship QualityIncredible ship. Absolutely clean. Dining/FoodTop rate and tasty. Stateroom Quality
Ship Staff QualityThey go the extra mile. At your service always. Entertainment & ActivitiesSO, SO much more to do than you have time and there is ALWAYS something for all ages. Great, Fantastic!! Children's ProgramsThey had a Christmas Special that all children got to participate in and it was very memorable. I will cherish it always. 1 out of 1 people found this review helpful.

Not a wonderful cruise on Carnival by
Jose E. from San Diego Sailing date: Nov 2009Pros: The cabin personnel and waiter were good Cons: mediocre food Lots of mediocre food.
Very low in activities, trivial pursuit is not entertainment.. On board activities are very lame.
Cruise is geared toward people who just want to eats lots of food and not move too much. Food at dinner and on the deck was served cold. Shrimp, lobster and other seafood overcooked and rubbery . Pools crowded with teens and children running, diving and spashing. Crew did not enforced pool rules.
Cocktail drinks watered stick to beer or bring your own
Would be willing to pay for better quality.
Would not travel on Carnival cruises. Ship QualityPools overcrowded. Adult pool full of children rules not enforced even after mentioning to staff. Dining/FoodLots of comfort mediocre food, lacked taste and quality. Stateroom Quality
