Not What Cruising Should Be About by
Hal B from sedona, AZ Sailing date: Apr 2010Pros: very helpful and friendly staff- on par with the rest of the cruise industry where friendliness and courtesy is a requirement Cons: VERY HEAVY WI-FI SIGNALS! if you are sensitive to them this ship is not the one to go on. very old ship, not enough public spaces, very small pool(only one) very few hot tubs(always crowded with randy/drunk people), people crowded on sundecks like cattle, few good onboard activities, the food was bad, bad enough that I got sick while onboard(no, I didn't eat or drink anything onshore) - better in the buffet lines then the dining room which was disaster. Not enough public space by a long-shot. the onboard activites were very lame in comparison to other cruises I've taken where the activites were actually fun and entertaining. the shows were out of date, sexist, and the humor not funny though the talent show was actually the highlight of this particular cruise. docked in the second port late and then held us inside, crammed in the stairways while another ship docked and tied up next door so that we lost out on a $200 off ship tour to Tulum(one of the main reasons for taking this cruise) because we couldn't make the connections and get back to the ship in time. The ship is old and not really large so that if the gulf has waves at all it is very rough. I noticed a lot of people with sea-sickness on the cruise - perhaps the majority. If you are Wi-Fi sensitive this ship will be HELL for you. It was obviously built before wi-fi and when retrofitted not shielded well. every time I went into the show room or the jewelry shop outside my head would buzz, i would get sharp pains in my ears and front of my head and my traveling partner did too. I noticed many people walking out of the shows dizzy. Many people are fine with high frequency waves bombarding them but if you have noticed that you are sensitive to this type of radio wave transmission at all you MUST STAY OFF THIS SHIP! It was painful and I would bet it was hazardous as well. I couldn't wait to get off this ship and I have had really good times cruising before. As we were disembarking the ship on the last day, walking down our passageway going past many open cabin door the smell of excrement was overpowering....I believe many people were sick while on the ship from the poor food quality. I know our dining companions got sick the second day out. This was a sick ship! Ship Quality

  A Cruise to Nowhere by
Felecia W. from Lufkin, TX Sailing date: Mar 2010Pros: I liked the people who worked on the ship and I liked the food, as well as the ship's appearance. Cons: The cruise was delayed by fog and the captain made the decision to sail in a big triangle to nowhere. We couldn't make our port, so we just stayed in the cold Gulf of Mexico and endured the wind and the clouds and the cold, cold water. The ship was beautiful. The decor was great. It really was a fun ship. The beds could have been more comfortable. They were a little hard. Also, one of the hot tubs wasn't working properly the first two days. It was fixed on the last day. The shows were great. All the entertainment exceeded my expectations. The service personnel were all wonderful, so friendly and helpful. Ship QualityAs I said earlier, the ship was great. People on board worked so hard all the time to keep it clean and "ship-shape." The itenerary was all that I was unhappy about. Dining/FoodThe food was very good. Dinner was great in the dining room every night. The other food courts had a good variety at all meals. The breakfast was great because it had something for everyone. I preferred to eat a healthy breakfast, and the choices were abundant. Stateroom QualityThe room was nice, but the bed was not very comfortable. Ship Staff QualityThe crew was the best! Entertainment & ActivitiesI totally enjoyed the live shows and other entertainment features. Children's ProgramsI didn't use the children's programs, but I saw many families who did, and they all seemed very satisfied. I saw the counselors with the kids, and everything seemed well organized and smoothy run. 4 out of 4 people found this review helpful.

  a pampered vacation... by
Timpthy R from Houston TX Sailing date: Feb 2010Pros: shows and dining Cons: final charges does not match bank statement This was our first cruise ever and we really enjoyed ourselves. The Camp Carnival was a bit confusing where it was being held and the times were not consistant. The food at dinner was fantastic and the wait staff exceeded our expectations. Our rooom was very clean and kept tidy at all times. They are the unsung heros of the trip. They work quietly and continously and they were always polite. The sushi bar is fantastic and everyone was professional and friendly. Our greatest concern is that our credit card charges does not match our actual charges and this is a great concern. We suggest putting cash on the sign and sail card and not use a credit card. That is what we will do for now on. Ohh, by the way, you are going to love the shows on the Ecstasy and the Hamburgers are to die for. Thanks carnival we will sail again with you guys.
The Richards Family Ship QualityNice and clean and the water slide is fantastic. Smelt a bit moldy in certian areas. Dining/FoodWow!!! Wonderful menu and delicious food. Stateroom QualityPlenty of room and nicely kept at all times. The ocean view was refreshing and comfortable. The bed was very comfortable and clean. Great job house keepers!!1! Ship Staff QualityThey really show that they care about your vacation experience Entertainment & Activitiesthe daily activity schedule was very helpful and informative Children's Programshard to keep up with and not available as much as we expected. The personnel was friendly and I felt safe with leaving my child with them. Schedule was very confusing though. 4 out of 4 people found this review helpful.

  Great deal by
Art R from Western Mass Sailing date: Feb 2010Pros: The freindliness and attitude of the staff was well beyond our expectations Cons: The only negative was the weather was not quite what we had hoped The crew from the cruise director to our room attendents to our wait staff were great. The continual food, show options and other entertainment made it a wonderful vacation. I would definitely recommend vactioning out of Galveston. Since the majority of the people on vacation were from Texas, they were equally friendly and down to earth. The cruise director and his staff seemed to have something to prove, in a very positive way, that they want to make this the best experience possible. Ship Quality
Dining/FoodYou could enjoy good food on your way to eat a great meal. Stateroom QualityEverytime we left our room someone cleaned it and freshened everything up. Ship Staff QualityWell beyond our expectations Entertainment & ActivitiesEntertainment and activities for everyone. Children's ProgramsWe did not have any kids on board and we rarely saw any but during our exit from the ship we so many children with their parents. We read about the children offerings and saw the areas restricted to children but we never really heard or saw them except for when they were entering or exiting the ship. 1 out of 1 people found this review helpful.

Gulf-Mexico 4 day Carribean cruise by
Terry H. from Houston, TX Sailing date: Feb 2010Pros: Freedom to do what you wanted Cons: safety issues Only recommend this ship & cruise if safety issues are cleared (see below):
* Photo personnel in ship, put booths by elevators. This clogged the entry-exits of elevators (a no-no).
* Photo personnel acted like poparazzi on destination disembarkment. Clogged exit to ship, and elevators. Caused undo delay to get off ship.
* Ship is top heavy, and cruise line has not increased size of ships levelers. This caused undo rocking of ship on clear, glass water conditions. In rough conditions, it excelled the conditions.
Food, entertainment, activities, cruise director, service personnel, and cleanliness were exceptional...making this cruise! Ship QualityThis could have been "The Best" if the clogged exits, and boat rocking are taken care of. Dining/Food

  Great cruise by
Joe T. from Kerrville, Tx. Sailing date: Sep 2009Pros: More things going on on the ship Cons: Breakfast buffet line. We have cruised on this ship before and the activities onboard were scarce. If you like to shop or gamble, you will stay busy. If you are looking for entertainment they now have plenty of that going on. They have clubs for teens, clubs for adults and activities for the very young set. As I mentioned, the last time we cruised they had very little entertainment. This time the entertainment was continuous. The breakfast line for the made to order omelets was very slow. Thank goodness you have the option to eat in the restuarants. Ship Quality

First Cruise on Carnival Esctasy! by
Jennifer from Texas Sailing date: Aug 2009Pros: The service was great! Very helpful! Cons: Alcohol prices were very expensive! One drink came out to over $18!! The trip was wonderful! The only complaint is the price of drinks. I think they could probably sell more if they were a little less expensive. We ended up only having 4 drinks because of the prices! The staff was very friendly and helpful! Ship QualityFairly easy to find everything on boat. Everything kept clean and tidy. Dining/FoodLoved that food was available from 6 am to 4am! You can basically eat whenever you want and as much as you want!! The food isn't the best I've ever had, tastes like basic buffet food. Stateroom QualityNice room. About everytime we left room, it was cleaned when we came back. Ship Staff QualityStaff was very friendly and helpful. Room service was very helpful with whatever we needed! Entertainment & ActivitiesActivities going on all day! Always something to do!

Cozumel, MexicoShopping is more expensive here than in Progreso. We went on the snorkeling and beach party excursion for $59! It was awesome, definitely worth every cent! Free margaritas and beer with it as well!!
Don't Miss: Do a shore excursion here, not much else unless you only want to shop and eat. Progreso (Merida), MexicoVisit the flea market to get good deals on necklaces, etc. But make sure to bargain and never pay the price they are asking for. If they ask for $20, offer $5. The excursion to the mayan ruins are awesome! Book with auto progreso in port, they are alot cheaper than the ship.
Don't Miss: Flea Market, but make sure to bargain with them. 1 out of 2 people found this review helpful.

Wonderful Cruise & Vacation, Great Price by
Joan M., from Kingwood, TX Sailing date: Jul 2009Pros: Food, Shows, Service was all excellent Cons: Excursions are pricey (and not much for kids under 5), boat decor shows age but was very clean We took this cruise with our 4 kids ranging in age from 5-18. We had two outside cabins. They were quiet, clean and plenty roomy enough. We had to book our excursions separately from the ship because of our 5 year old was too young for most of their excursions. Turned out to be a great deal. We had wonderful excursions at less than half the price!! The food was fantastic. My kids didn't do Camp Carnival too much but rather to hang out by the pool. The shows need a little updating as does the decor of the ship. One of the comediens was hysterical but the other was mediocre. No problems in getting on or off the ship. We did the soft drink card which was a bargain for us. All in all it was a great vacation. Ship QualityShip isn't the biggest there is. The decor is out of date but is not worn or dirty. It's heading to dry dock in a couple of weeks for updating. Dining/FoodFood was fantastic. There was more than ample variety and if you couldn't decide on an entree they brought you both! Stateroom QualityWe stayed forward on the Empress deck. I was concerned there would be a lot of noise on this deck but there was none. It was quiet, clean, and very comfortable. Ship Staff QualityOur room steward was super and took did lots of special things for my little ones. Everyone was very friendly. Entertainment & ActivitiesProbably need more activities for the late teen age group. Children's ProgramsI was a little disappointed in Camp Carnival. Twice when I dropped my kids off there the girl in charge was "fussing" loudly at the kids. My kids didn't stay that long there thought, they liked the pool better.

Cozumel, MexicoSo many things to do here. Again, we had to book acitivities through an outside company because Carnival doesn't do water sports for kids under 8. That's OK, we booked through Manta Sports and did a 3 hours snorkeling trip, then parasailing, and still fit in a quick lunch at Carlo and Charlie's. What more could you ask for? I'd love more time in Cozumel.
Don't Miss: In my opinion, you can't go wrong on anything in Cozumel, although it was very hot to have done the Ruins tours. Progreso (Merida), MexicoNot the best of ports. We booked a trip to the Reef Club resort from outside the cruise ship and that was fantastic but there were little choices. The town was poor. Not a lot of people who speak English.
Don't Miss: Reef Club Resort through Auto Progreso 2 out of 3 people found this review helpful.
